Alan Hargreaves
Observability in Solaris 10 and Open Solaris
Abstract
With the release of Solaris 10, there is a whole new arena of observability within the kernel and user space. Alan will discuss some of these and their relevance to the System Administrator, and ways of taking advantage of them without having to learn new languages.
Biography
Alan got into System Administration in 1984 with Edition VII Unix at the University of Newcastle. After spending six years looking after a mix of boxes at CSIRO, he moved to Sun in 1999 where he has been doing technical support now for eight years.
His current duties as a staff engineer in the kernel support team have him playing in the Solaris kernel, participating in the Veritas Oracle Sun Joint Escalation Centre and investigating hairy performance issues with some of Sun's largest customers worldwide.
An advocate of Open Solaris, he loves playing guitar and makes his own beer. In his spare time he dotes on his eight year old twins.
