SAGE-AU was formed to advance the profession of System Administration by raising awareness of the need for System Administrators, and educating System Administrators in technical as well as professional issues.

About SAGE-AU

SAGE-AU is a not-for-profit professional organisation. It promotes the development of the system administration profession via online communication forums, regional monthly meetings, regional symposiums and an annual national technical conference:

  • We aim to increase interaction between professional system administrators within Australia, and internationally.
  • We provide recognition to high achievers amongst our members.
  • We also support systems administrators in their daily jobs via various publications and an active email discussion forum. Our members use the considerable body of knowledge within the organisation to assist enterprise and government to make prudent Information Technology decisions.

SAGE-AU members work in all varieties of profit and not-for-profit industry, education, research and government, in roles spanning from junior administrators to chief information officers.

Mailing Lists: Ranging from the technical right through to management, our lists promote the sharing of knowledge amongst our vastly experienced membership.

Member Wiki: Containing archives of mailing lists, articles, and discussions regarding sysadmin issues and other items, this continually evolves through member contribution. We publish video content online too, as an extra dimension to our knowledge base.

Newsletter: Our regular journals also share information amongst members, with varied content regarding everything from professional experiences to system administration issues. These are also available online, and as a SAGE-AU member you are also welcome to contribute.

Code of Ethics: One of our most important resources is a System Administrators' Code of Ethics which helps members to maintain a professional, ethical approach to their work, and benefits both administrators and employers.

Conferences: The Australian System Administrators' Conference, held annually by SAGE-AU, is the premier conference for System Administrators in Australia.

Member Discounts: Membership entitles you to some excellent discounts on both products and services to our supporters.

IRC Channel: A real time discussion/help line with immediate feedback is available on channel #sage-au on the IRC server irc.sage-au.org.au

Key Ring: All members receive a SAGE-AU key ring which, if attached when lost, allows the finder to post your keys to us, so that we can safely return them to you, at no cost.
